Bruh I thought I had ADHD my whole life but my mom just told me I got diagnosed with dyslexia in the first grade but they didn’t really want that “title” so they went with ADHD

They’re both stigmatized either way? And dyslexia does have its own specific accommodations not just extra test time

I think it more the meaning behind the two. Dyslexia involves mis-wiring on nerves while adhd is a chemical imbalance. And though both cause problems, adhd effects more parts of the brain/body leading to more than just functioning issues. So i understand that being misinformed can cause a spiral. For me i thought my symptoms were my anxiety/seasonal depression, and when i was finally diagnosed it kind of sent me into this identity crisis. No one should be lied to about any medical condition.

That’s why my mom said it didn’t really matter because the accommodations don’t really change. It’s more of an identity thing. It explains so much of my life now.
