Is it wrong to be in your 30’s and live with your parents?

my mom is a picky eater and i know a couple people who are in fan communities as adults… thanks for implying that those people are “weird”, author of the original text.

He wasn’t saying any of it was wrong. He was saying let people be people & if they’re weird or not doing whatever society says they should get over caring about it because it’s not your business. Take care of your own stuff rather than focusing on anyone else’s.

They’re not using weird for things they think are weird, they’re using weird for stuff people tend to ridicule or call weird or view as cringy. Nothing wrong with being picky or being in fan communities, those are just things people love to mock

there isn’t a lot of subtext in “people who are just weird” lol, the author should’ve used air quotes or something. maybe if OP wrote “people who are considered weird”, but that’s not the case

I’m not the og author but I am weird (according to society) I acknowledge I’m weird and am ok with this. Not fitting into society’s definition of “normal” is by definition weird. But why tf would I want to be basic af when I could not care and be me instead.

The author isn’t using weird as an insult, just a descriptor.

i think about that too sometimes…. a normal person would not have been able to go from a middle class public high school into an ivy league school but he probably would not need to if he had been accepted by his peers

social isolation, lack of self acceptance, inability to have opportunities, low self esteem, inability to others to relate to you….

I mean he probably did because he was bored in regular classes. But there’s plenty of ways to have peer social interaction that have nothing to do with academics. I hope his parents put him in a few that corresponded with his interests. Because if not they failed at their jobs.

that’s ME. I did cross country and track for four years and i still run. I was not accepted by my teammates. There’s a reason i ghosted most of them when i graduated.

my interests besides running FWIW during high school was an extremely niche hobby that is off putting to most people (geocaching) and GETTING AWAY FROM THE PLACE BY GRINDING SCHOOL

I know a couple geocachers. Not my hobby but I don’t think it’s off putting and there are geocaching groups to join: peer interaction. And running also has groups to join. I like witchy and creepy shit and crochet. Im getting into dnd as well. I wouldn’t say a majority of people are lining up for my interests, but there are people. I figured out early on I was odd to my peers. I made it a goal to hone my sense of humor at 12. I also started treating the general public like an anthropology

Study. Humans became a hyper focus. Taught myself to read body language. Still weird af, but now apparently successful give off “cool edgy weird that doesn’t care if I’m off putting to some people” vibes rather than just “dork who reads too much”

those things arent due to being weird those are other people's reactions to your being weird. it's their fault not the weird people's fault

Dork who reads too much was 12-16 yr old me. I can still kill a book or 2 in a day if I’m having a bad one but I like being around people and while I am weird I no longer feel like a freak and it’s still challenging but I have figured out ways to find my people.

^what 6 said. People’s opinions of you aren’t something you can control. But you should work on your own opinion of you.

Considering this is a tumblr post I highly doubt op means it in a negative manner, considering tumblr is a hotspot for many of the groups they list, most likely including themself
