to me, stranger to acquaintance means consistently talking about something that isn’t related to the context in which you see them. and then the shift to friend means doing things with them, hanging out, sharing burdens and sending memes

stranger: i dont know u, maybe i know ur face, but we haven’t met officially acquaintance: we’ve met a couple times in group or public settings. usually someone u either dont know if u like yet or tolerate bc of proximity, could be a stepping stone to friend friend: see them outside of the context that you know them, u text/send memes, these interactions are a somewhat regular and definitely enjoyable occurrence that are initiated mutually or in somewhat equal amounts from either party

Stranger = you’ve never spoken or you have briefly spoken but know very little information about them Acquaintance = you’ve spoken before and u know some information about them and visa versa, u regularly spend time with them in the context that you met them in and feel comfortable approaching them and chatting in those settings Friend = You freely share new information about your life with them, you actively make plans to hang out with them in a context different than the one you met them in
