i feel the same way and i think i finally figured out why it likely comes from the fact that i'm autistic, and was forced to mask as a kid so i have these "rules" ingrained, and when someone types like that it triggers something since it goes against the "rules" for grammar/speaking/typing
I relate to this so much!!! We’re not using the 9 button phones anymore, nobody is paying by character, spell the whole damn word out. It’s less effort to spell it out all the way too, with how finicky autocorrect has always been. Acronyms are a different story tho (there could be a case made for “tho” also, but imo it’s not as egregious)
It doesn’t bother me if we’re just having a stupid conversation or if its a situation that doesn’t require using braincells if that makes sense? But as soon as the situation involves actual thinking, like a conversation about more than just “hehe look a silly” or some form of serious communication, yeah it just feels like they’re being lazy and it rubs me the wrong way. My husband understood when I told him it drove me crazy in serious contexts and he’s good at being literate when he needs to be
texts are meant to be fast paced. If that’s how they want to type then that’s fine because it’s a type of language that is clear, legible and easily understood. If you don’t like that you can tell them and if they don’t want to change how they text for you specifically (understandable) then you guys can compromise and find a different way to communicate. I think it’s unreasonable to expect everyone to communicate in the way you specifically want (not saying you do, but I have seen that)
No I second this for sure. I feel like there are a few that are okay like “tbh” “fr” sometimes too. I think it’s really just the ones that are one word that are like 3-4 letters that get me. But it’s also, yes it takes an extra millisecond to spell it out but it also takes longer processing to figure out what they’re saying which gets me too
Totally valid question, I agree with #4 I guess in the sense where it gives juvenile and illiterate. But it definitely depends on the situation for sure. I’d say what motivates it is the fact that the letters are so close to eachother and some people can’t even spell out a three letter word. That strikes me as careless but just dumb depending on the person of course
