I need advice on if anyone relates to this or if I just have a problem. It really annoys me that this person I’m seeing texts using “Wut, le (the), nd (and), u, r, feck, tht, fuck nugget, y(why), etc” does anyone else relate to this? Am I being too hard??

It honestly drives me crazy when people message like that. I tend to not respond when they do.

i feel the same way and i think i finally figured out why it likely comes from the fact that i'm autistic, and was forced to mask as a kid so i have these "rules" ingrained, and when someone types like that it triggers something since it goes against the "rules" for grammar/speaking/typing

if it gives you the ick it gives you the ick. what would addressing it do? they have a style they like to type in and it bothers you. seems incompatible

I relate to this so much!!! We’re not using the 9 button phones anymore, nobody is paying by character, spell the whole damn word out. It’s less effort to spell it out all the way too, with how finicky autocorrect has always been. Acronyms are a different story tho (there could be a case made for “tho” also, but imo it’s not as egregious)

My biggest thing is ending sentences/texts with a “.” It brings me an uncomfortable amount of anxiety

It doesn’t bother me if we’re just having a stupid conversation or if its a situation that doesn’t require using braincells if that makes sense? But as soon as the situation involves actual thinking, like a conversation about more than just “hehe look a silly” or some form of serious communication, yeah it just feels like they’re being lazy and it rubs me the wrong way. My husband understood when I told him it drove me crazy in serious contexts and he’s good at being literate when he needs to be

I'm curious-could you describe where that annoyance comes from and/or what motivates it? As in, what does that typing style say to you about the person who uses it?

texts are meant to be fast paced. If that’s how they want to type then that’s fine because it’s a type of language that is clear, legible and easily understood. If you don’t like that you can tell them and if they don’t want to change how they text for you specifically (understandable) then you guys can compromise and find a different way to communicate. I think it’s unreasonable to expect everyone to communicate in the way you specifically want (not saying you do, but I have seen that)

Also, can I ask what the issue is with “fuck nugget”? That one’s not really an abbreviation like the others so I’m curious

I’ve never seen le for the and wtf does feck and fuck nugget mean??? Usually when people text like this I play dumb and just say what? And they’ll usually correct themselves properly

I really appreciate you sharing so thank you. I feel the same way and it’s really bothering me. I’m not sure how to address it because I already have a few weeks ago with this person

it give childish, unserious, illiterate. Wild animated, when I see people type like that I can’t help but hear a little anime girl, it give cringe.

Yea that one makes me wonder if the annoyance stems from like, 2013ish when people typed like that and also had weird curse words/insults like fuck nugget

I agree!!! I can say “bc” or “rn” but even that’s a 50/50 for me. But no I’m the same way. It makes them look so dumb it’s infuriating because I know they’re not. Same with the differences between your, you’re, they’re, there, and their!!

You’re right, it’s not an abbreviation but I was gathering words and patterns that I’ve noticed from this persons texting for examples of things I was annoyed or icked out by and that one just so happened to be on there haha

No I second this for sure. I feel like there are a few that are okay like “tbh” “fr” sometimes too. I think it’s really just the ones that are one word that are like 3-4 letters that get me. But it’s also, yes it takes an extra millisecond to spell it out but it also takes longer processing to figure out what they’re saying which gets me too

I’m really happy to hear that you have such a great connection with your husband that he’s able to understand that☺️ but yea I agree! It definitely depends on the context for sure

Totally valid question, I agree with #4 I guess in the sense where it gives juvenile and illiterate. But it definitely depends on the situation for sure. I’d say what motivates it is the fact that the letters are so close to eachother and some people can’t even spell out a three letter word. That strikes me as careless but just dumb depending on the person of course

1000%. I wouldn’t want to change anyone either especially if that’s what they’re comfortable with. That’s why I asked on here to see if this was a common thing or if I split on someone and wasn’t sure if my feelings were logical towards it or not!
