Wanted to hear from people who're not taking stimulants, e.g. Adderall, for ADHD. I recently got diagnosed, and I'm afraid that it might take a turn for the worse. How's your experience, and how do you manage your attention issues? Is it just rawdogging?

Hi I don’t take anything for my ADHD!! I rely on strict time management and have completely locked down my phone to avoid short form content! That and frequent exercise/healthy eating/ a decent sleep schedule has gotten me to be at least somewhat productive

well there’s non-stimulants so you have other options besides adderall & just not treating it at all

I couldn’t do it without medication any longer. There are non-stimulant options available, such as Vyvanse! They seem to work for *many* people even though not for me. You could also look into therapies and support groups if you don’t want to take any medication (which is also completely valid!)

What kind of help, if any, did you take to achieve this discipline?

I was in therapy for two years (ages 14-16), and after I “graduated” I got pretty into philosophy, especially philosophies of Christianity and nuanced platonism/stoicism through a feminist lense. I’ve decided within my own philosophy and religion that I will label sin as anything that harms me, which includes not treating my body/mind well. All this to say, a really positive mindset goes a long way to stay disciplined. I think it’s really easy for people with ADHD to berate ourselves (1/2)

(2/2) because of the way that people treat us when we mess up/are forgetful because we have ADHD, but unlearning that is funnily enough the best way to cope with ADHD symptoms. All this to say though, I don’t think non medication paths are the best for everyone, but I am fortunate enough to work in a field I can hyperfocus on easily, and I have a great support system. When I have more responsibilities, medication may be needed, but I’ll take the days as they come.
