I might be overthinking this but is it normal as an autistic person to count the steps I walk down on a staircase? Is this a stim or something more OCD? I don’t think I have OCD but I wonder how much overlap there is.

OCD requires both obsessions and compulsions (or in the case of pure O OCD, just obsessions) counting stairs means absolutely nothing if it’s not paired with an obsession or if it’s a stim not a compulsion. If you think you may have OCD I recommend looking into what is considered an obsession and figuring out if it applies to you. I do this too! I think whether it’s a stim or an ocd thing depends more on the person (assuming they have both) but for me personally, it’s def a stim

Obsessions were better explained by my anxiety and intrusive thoughts and same for things I thought might be compulsions. Ofc look into it yourself if you’re concerned. OCD can be difficult to see from the outside and we, having very little of this story from yik yak, literally cannot tell you if for you counting stairs is more of an OCD or Autism thing
