Idk if this is just like a me thing but I genuinely have no idea how to approach dating and relationships. I’m on dating apps but I never know how to talk to people or I get anxious and chicken out. I think being ace also plays in but I genuinely just—

Don’t know how to communicate or go about meeting someone. I literally got a bachelors degree before ever going on a date or even holding hands with someone non-platonically. I’ve had crushes but I’ve never had anything more than that and I feel like I’m behind and like I’m missing something that so many people have. Idk if any of this makes sense or if I’m just rambling nonsense but I needed to get it off my chest and see if anyone felt similarly

i think the best way to go about it, for anyone of any level of inclinations for romantic or intimacy, is to go about it as making a friend. now even that is hard as fuck with adding neurodivergence to the pot (plus potential for other disabilities/chronic illnesses), but i’d say that the goal is finding a person that you feel comfortable with to share your interests at length, feel compelled to talk/be with, can laugh together often, and enjoy silence together.

Dating apps suck. I geniunely believe friends to lovers is the only possible way to find love in this generation... get to know them first then just let it happen overtime

I find that it’s easier to make friends (as a dude) on there than an actual romantic connection. But I also fear being a creep if I show any interest

like it sounds kinda silly but i always thought dating apps were extremely hard to use because it had the implications of sex built into it within our heteronormative society. i’d use it for two weeks, gather some socials from good connections (never a phone number), and then delete the entire account after those ~14 days to explore those connections to see if we could be friends first.

I’ve had better luck with getting actual conversations out of bumble and hinge matches but I feel like they all inevitably hit some sort of dead end. There was one guy I really liked and I actually worked up the nerve to ask if he wanted to meet and he said yes and then ghosted me

I’m also just really terrible at making friends and I never actually know where I stand with people and it just makes it so hard. Like I always end up thinking that a friendship is stronger than the other person thinks it is if that makes sense. I’m always the inviter and never the invitee and I don’t even ask people to hang out much because I’m so worried about coming off as annoying. Like I’m constantly afraid that someone’s gonna see me as a burden and idk what to do to fix that mindset

that happens so easily with this digital dating world because there’s no “repercussions” really. i mean i had people cancel even when I was 30min into an hour commute to where we were going to meet for lunch (my hometown tho) 😐

it will probably take a while, but your authenticity will snag someone good some day. i swear it. my partner and i happened to meet via mutuals online who’d met us both in person at national events. he had gone the one year i couldn’t make it. we were long distance for 2 years (over 1000miles) and he moved in last fall, just had our 3rd anniversary!

i am that person too so i see you, friend. that’s why i commented bc im like “this person is just another version of me” lol. i’m 28 and i can tell you i can count my friends on two hands, and that second hand is not full 😂 not only that, none of them live near me. some live 50mi away, others over 2000mi away! you’ll find your people, and they will make it clear how important you are to them. even if it’s just five people by the time you’re 30. ❤️

just counted and i genuinely think it’s six but i panicked for a moment bc i was like wait did i just lie and it’s actually just five LMAO 😂 so not including my brother or my partner as a best friend, i only have six friends and ALL of which have only formed within the last 10 years of my life once i got to college and i didn’t even have all six the whole time either!

I’ve gotten a lot better about putting myself out there over the last year (I got a job that required working really closely with a staff of 50 that introduced me to a lot of opportunities), but I still just feel like I’m stuck and I haven’t figured out how to find a middle ground or adjust to where I am. Thank you for commenting and listening to my ramblings lol. Fingers crossed I’ll be able to build those stronger relationships but I can’t say I’m surprised you did with how kind you’ve been

most people say they’re surprised i don’t have many friends when they meet me too. 😂 the autism makes long term friendship pretty difficult sometimes! the strong sense of justice tends to drive people away lol 😵‍💫 but i’m very thankful for those close true friendships
