I don’t get this homesteading/country living trend. It feels more like a nightmare than a fantasy to me. Yet another traditional heteronormative expectation that isolates me from my generation

a lot of the ppl who make content on it don’t actually live like that 24/7 tbh, not everyone ofc but “influencers” who do it usually don’t do it all themself/full time

not to be more woke than you but its literally capitalism escapism.. why would I want to be a cog in the capitalist machine when I can have my own self sustaining community and get on my knees for colonial america when I can revert to what my indigenous people have been doing for eons before europe decided nah

It’s the main way out of this capitalist hell hole… not for me though, I like the city life even if I have to work a j*b to sustain it

tradwife influencers for example have been outed as mostly having a lot of hired help to clean, cook, etc. so they’re not actually doing it all themself, they just preach that they do, but really there were a few who had like 2-6 maids in their giant house who did most of the work, child raising, etc. it’s so dishonest

i find it kinda insidious esp with tradwife bc they’re preaching about this lifestyle being right but they don’t even follow it lmfao but i’m always wary of influencers or ppl who make money off of posting and that’s a significant part of their income bc it’s just not honest, and then they’re telling everyone that it’s easy and they should do it when they’re not even doing it
