My messy apartment is giving me anxiety but I'm also struggling with executive dysfunction and can't motivate myself to clean, any tips??

Something that helps me a lot is convincing myself to do something tiny. Like, I’ll tell myself that I’m going to put up one shirt on my way to the bathroom. One shirt becomes 5, becomes 10, and before I know it, I’m doing the dishes for some reason😅

Start a solo dance party to a song/playlist you love! And then pick something up and make it part of the choreo. And you have to get from where you are to putting it away while staying on the beat and with constant choreo! Works for me sometimes

Breaking things up into areas helps too. I have a tendency to have an everywhere-all-at-once-approach, but it’s always better when I limit myself to one area, like clearing off the table or the entryway or my bedroom floor. Because then when you’re done, you can both see and experience the distinctly improved space, which helps motivate to make more spaces feel like that

Doing things while doing other things is also top tier. For example, I empty the dishwasher while waiting for water to boil/pasta to cook/microwave or toaster to finish/etc. You only have that limited time, so it’s like a race. And on low energy days, it’s just a time limit — you’ll do the task for that long, and then you stop regardless of how far you’ve gotten
