I need recommendations for cooling blankets, I just started a new medication and I’ve been getting so hot while sleeping that I’m soaking through my clothes so then I feel all gross for work

I get why not if it’s a sensory thing, but have you tried sleeping in less clothes? A lot of my youth sleep was spent in minimal clothing in front of a fan

This is gonna sound like kinda shit advice- but if you’re on a tight budget- look a cooling blankets on Temu (or anouther very cheap platform- they’re basically all the same thing) - find one you like (try cool silk)- and then get a couple and keep them in your bed- that way when one gets hot you can just swap it out and kick the other one out from under your covers to cool down- and rotate them so you always have a cool one. It becomes a reflex after a point- or at least it did for me.

https://share.temu.com/LAPUVzQ3LuC This is the one I have right now. (Screenshot this and then highlight the link bc yikyak doesn’t let you copy) Blankie is smooth and cool like a comforter, heats up quick with body heat (yay thermodynamics) but if you get airflow on it (like wiggle it around) it becomes cool in seconds it’s so nice. Be careful about washing it though- the reviews say it does funky stuff in the wash.

I work nights and it’s just as hot and humid when I get up as it is when I get off work, plus I haven’t gotten that far in waking up early enough to shower 😅

I typically sleep in small shorts or boxers and a t-shirt but I can’t sleep like just naked cause I have my nipples pierced, but they may not stay that way for long cause I think one is migrating and about to reject

This honestly isn’t a bad idea, I was just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations cause I don’t want to spend money on one that doesn’t even work

Yay! I’m glad my idea is helpful :) But yeah- any cooling blanket you find on the market (that isn’t one of those super expensive water cooled ones) is basically some form of silk feeling polyester, becuase they tend to be very cool to the touch- only caveat is that they warm up pretty quick depending on your body heat, so if you want it to be cool cool- you are going to need to have multiple to flip through- or one very large one so you can find a cool section in your sleep.

I urge you not to buy into the whole “natural silk only” nonsense that influencers are peddling right now. Actual silk is very fuckin expensive and it pretty much as the same issues when it comes to heating up quickly as the poly blend replica silk versions you might find. So unless you have a system that works- and then want to swap it out for something nicer- don’t get the expensive stuff off the bat. 😅

Aw darn I have cats that like to throw up on my bed so I’d need to be able to wash it :( it suck that there isn’t anything that like a heated blanket but just cold instead cause I’m basically a freaking space heater with how much body heat I put off

That does exist! But it’s pretty expensive and I’ve never used something like it before (because it’s so expensive). It’s called the Orion Sleep System- it’s a water cooled mattress topper. But it’s like… 3,000 dollars 😬 I do think it has a lifetime warranty though and one of those satisfaction guarantee thingies. If it’s something you want to save up for? Or maybe we could like- do a crowdfunding campaign on here for you?

Also I’ve seen this thing that looks like a fan that you attach in between your sheets so it continuously blows cool air on you as you sleep? But I again- don’t have any experience with the system. But perhaps it’s worth a research. This is one of the first ones I saw on Google- but I’m sure they’re are less outlandishly priced ones online.

Shifting from working a 9-5 to working afternoon/evening/night definitely helped me feel like a person before work. I also started on ADHD meds around when I did that switch and the biggest thing that helps from that is reduced time blindness, so I now shower in 10-15 minutes instead of 20-60 minutes.

I think it also started as like “let me just rinse off real quick before work because holy crap I’m sweaty”

For your actual question, I got my cooling blanket at Costco and I do like it lol, I also have a few ice packs that are meant for gently icing injuries that I use as additional cooling when needed
