At this point Ive given up trying to explain to my mom how executive disfunction can ruin my willpower to do anything and how I don’t find money to be an intrinsic motivating factor when it comes to working a job

Pardon my lack of understanding, but may I ask why money is not a motivating factor for working a job? At least for me it’s a big motivator because otherwise I won’t be able to afford rent or have food. I get the feeling of wanting to just slip away, and not having food or housing wouldn’t matter in that case, but otherwise isn’t working somewhat of a necessity? (/genuine)

Yeah of course working is a necessity in order to pay rent and buy food and clothing, but I see those as extrinsic motivators. I don’t get any intrinsic satisfaction from having to go to work everyday. I only do it to avoid negative consequences (homelessness, starvation).

That’s a very good point! May I ask in what sense money could be an intrinsic motivator for anyone instead of an extrinsic motivator? Since access to luxuries and social status also seem like extrinsic motivators. Granted part of the point you were making is that it isn’t an intrinsic motivator for you, so it’s completely fair if you don’t know

Since I personally don’t find any enjoyment from money in itself, I can’t say I know how it can be an intrinsic motivator
