My mother: “I worked at a hospital I know what autism looks like….” Also my mother: Has a father who had the largest model train collection I’ve ever seen and constantly finds herself unable to go with the flow of any given situation 🙄

My maternal grandma (who married a guy who had many autistic traits) said that in her time autism existed but they didn’t have a name for it, “we just said their nature was different”.

Yeah, I’m being kinda judgy she used to work as a social worker assisting psych evals of kids the police had removed from their houses for various reasons. So there were LOTS of severe cases, I just don’t think she has an understanding that there are many more milder cases, these days that are severely less debilitating.
