its so hard to understand as a child in general but especially a ND child when parents are like “don’t hit!” and then hit you

I’m extremely judgy of both parents and pet owners that don’t work to try to model and consistently encourage the behavior and boundaries they want to see. I accept slip ups like yelling are a thing but if you’re not even trying to be better and recognizing the mistakes how is a kid supposed to learn how to do that for themselves? And hitting is never ok.

as a kid I got spanked a little but my trauma hadn't haooened yet, but I would just straight up punch kids in the face if they cheated in a game because I was always easy to piss off because of autism

the worst part is having parents that defended the behavior despite its contradictory nature. i got my ass beat for spilling my water, misunderstanding tone and TONS of things that were just mere mistakes. try to hold them accountable and they’ll either pull the “well i guess i’m the worst parent in the world” card OR the “i don’t remember that” card🫩

I got parentified and secretariefied by both my parents and got shoved into the role of mediator. A role I still exist in today and have no idea how to get out of because I can deny to be the middleman with the small stuff all I want but there will always be an actual emergency that one of them calls me to communicate with the other for.

I’ve also been repeatedly yelled at over the years for fulfilling that role too well and making one or both of them feel like I’m the parent.

this is actually insane, they’re blaming you (the child) for being more emotionally mature than them 💀

Got made the responsible parent after my brother was born at 7. By 10 mom was tired of “being the bad guy” with him so she made me get him to do things and I was told I was a bad sister if I didn’t. I was also a bad sister if she didn’t like my methods or opinions on how she was raising him (the golden child) now she’s really confused why he doesn’t take her seriously and is a bit of an asshole, a functional one, but one with opinions on women and people that suck.

I told her what was going to happen. I was right. She reinvents my childhood and claims that none of this happened and that she was a “wonderful” mother who did nothing but fight for her children. All she did was create problems because of her own mental illness. My dad was terrified of loosing the support and stability her family provided and so he let it happen and had his own mental health to deal with.

Yep. Mine acts like a toddler, often. I say something like “I’m not talking to you if you’re going to speak that way.” At least once a week.

When I have to parent my parents, I move it to text so that I can get screenshots and send to my therapist. He started the interaction by asking me how my day was. Of course I tell him every detail and it always ends in a fight. I decided I’m not going that route.
