sigh you people. why do you have to be like this. i’m republican leaning (moderate with slight conservative leans; i’m also adhd, on the spectrum slightly, and identify as gay) and i do not hate you. i’ve never done anything to hate you. why do believe what the media says about what i think about you, more than what i say directly to you about my feelings? this just makes absolutely zero sense why either side would believe what the media says the other side thinks, over someone FROM-

voting for someone who openly advertised this was EXACTLY what they were going to do and then saying you “didn’t do anything” is an oxymoron but go off. by supporting him, you are doing something and you’re advertising you’re not a safe person because you clearly can’t grasp why that’s harmful, either. sure, some of it is about hating the same people as him, but it’s also about if you’ll let him do the shit he’s doing to people who aren’t you. either way, hit dogs holler, lmfao. struck a nerve?

yes. how many interactions have you had with real people on the other side.

My family is MAGA and my coworkers are MAGA. I think most of us have plenty of real experience.

i’m not talkin about the post. i’m talking about your perception of “the other side” being more fueled by the media than actual real life interactions.

they aren’t being eroded. i could go on and on but since you see that they are i’d love for you to name five “protections” that trump has removed. protections that since removal have directly caused removal of specific persons from jobs or whatever because of their status. however, i do respect your opinion that these protections are warranted. my opinion is that they aren’t needed and were only pandering to a minority of a minority, or, were perpetrated by the media as necessary.

i also do not support trump or maga. i find trump repulsive and dangerous for the most part. he’s a sexual abuser and a great friend of yee ol J.E. i don’t like project 2025, or any of there shit. i do support however, the legal deportations, removal of overt “DEI”, and exposure of the fraud stuff happening in healthcare. i’m not politically aligned, i just have my views and that’s it. i also don’t let the media shape what i think of people to my right and left, because that’s insane.

Idk, man. I agree with OP and the people you’re arguing with, but I interact with right leaning coworkers and family on a daily basis. I do think that there’s this sort of odd assumption that right or centrist people can make that the problem is that we just haven’t interacted with conservatives or ‘the other side’ enough. Which is sadly wishful thinking.

well then i’d love to hear from you specifically what your direct personal opinion is on what the issue really is? a lot of americans are much more center leaning than one might believe. i used to think all republicans and maga were evil, now, i only see maga as “evil”. at the end of the day we are all americans and that should unite us more than R v L pulls us apart. however, negative partisanship is stronger than positive and is the leading cause of our divided nation at the moment.

Actually, I want to take a closer look at a couple of your comments: “i’m republican leaning moderate with slight conservative leans…” “i’m not politically aligned, i just have my views and that’s it.” These don’t entirely line up. One frames your stance as moderately conservative, the other claims no political alignment at all. That’s not necessarily a contradiction - people can indeed hold mixed views - but it does raise questions about how you’re positioning yourself in this conversation.

Especially since you opened with:“sigh you people. why do you have to be like this.” That sets a pretty condescending ‘I’m above it all’ tone. All despite the fact that you’ve clearly placed yourself somewhere on the political spectrum. You’ve also called out others for generalizing or assuming too much about “the other side,” but in the same breath, you’re painting left-leaning folks here as irrational or media-brainwashed.

Ik you weren’t talking to me, but I have insight. I try not to bring it up. Sometimes it comes up. They claim not to hate those people, but support legislation that leads to harm against the lgbt community, and when you point this out, they just deny it’s that bad. They may even deny something happened when it did, like when I told my mom about women being arrested for miscarriages. They don’t care. Or they think it’s so rare it doesn’t matter. When, even if it’s low statistic, it is still

my first comment was because OP, to me, is just regurgitating the same stuff mainstream media (happens on both sides) wants them to believe about our neighbors who don’t vote the same as we do. i am absolutely not above it all, however, it is my undergrad research focus. specifically polarization on social media. when i point others out, i should’ve been also more clear that i’m summarizing people who don’t critically think before they form opinions and speak. underneath-

but who’s they? the party leaders?, members?, who is ‘they’ in your context? when you say, they support legislation against LGBT, who do you refer to? also, i don’t understand why if a republican senator votes for [insert any bill you see as anti-LGBT because you are fully entitled to your own opinion], why does that make EVERYONE bad? wouldn’t it just be him and his immediate staffers? it might not even be all of them. maybe half the people who voted for them think “ooh i don’t like that”

i agree with you that on both sides, there will be people that laugh or make fun at people for things that they really ought not to. part of what i’m also trying to say is, that when these people do that, they do it for a reason. and that reason i promise to god is very very very unlikely because “they just hate the gays”. THEY TOO are probably basing their actions and words off of what media has told them, without talking to the targets of said media, without critically thinking first, and-

i simply do not agree with anything that goes against meritless hiring or pedaling. that is all. i think “woke” and “DEI” are mostly just made up words anyways. the alt right does position themselves that way because if you have someone who says “i don’t like gays blah blah” that IS traditionalist. gay marriage was not socially ACCEPTABLE until very recent, up until its federal legalization.

they take this position because they see themselves as not wanting to change. and that is historically accurate (if we stay post-dixiecrat). you can even see it in dumb surveys that show younger, more left leaning folk like lattes and the newest starbucks drink, while older more rural folks like drip coffee or “old fashioned way”. they just don’t like change. there will be some that do hate you, but i promise 95% of them don’t. that goes for both sides.
