when i was little my mother did a good job explaining other kids’ autistic traits to me & teaching me that her friend with schizophrenia deserved patience, but then when *i* exhibited autistic behaviors she’d tell me to “stop acting like a [R-slur]”

like consciously she very clearly understood right from wrong re: how to approach these kinds of subjects, but i guess that was just significantly less important to her than “MY kid sure as fuck better not be ‘one of those’ 🤢”

i was late diagnosed and thought telling my mom i had autism would mean something. it didn’t. she barely batted eye, she always knew i was different and hated me for it

parents are always chill until it’s their own kid istg. my mom was never homophobic but when i told her i was bi she said “no you’re not” like oh okay thanks 😃

My mom likes to tell me that beating me was her best decision she could’ve made bc it made me a better person

My mom would try to explain away any autistic traits we had and call us R-slurs when we exhibited traits or regressed

seems like some parents believe they can simply train us out of being autistic if they commit hard enough to cruelty and denial!

Bro my mom literally said “bout time they figured it out” … like hello? If you knew something was different you should have gotten me tested as a kid! Instead of abusing me!

im so sorry. what she put you through didn’t make you a better person. you became a better person in spite of what she put you through.

wtf… beating you in the first place was obviously unforgivable, but then she even has the nerve to try and justify it to you in retrospect??? legit heartbreaking, you deserve SO much better. hope you can get distance from her soon

it’s horrific having to contend with just how common this type of shit is. i legit appreciate the commiseration though ❤️‍🩹
