me when my ecology and evolution professor said that rho (ρ) was the greek letter p (it’s r). lowercase rho does look like p but like there’s like 3 p’s and none of them are rho. pi (π -> p), phi (φ -> ph), psi (ψ -> ps) it’s been over a whole semester and i still think about it because it was painful. one of my friends who’s also taking ancient greek was thankfully also in that class so i messaged him like “no way he just said rho was p” and i had someone to share my pain with
uppercase rho also just is identical to uppercase P to be fair but like everyone knows pi is p he even mentioned things like rhododendron are derived from greek which means he knew that rho was the r/rh (it can be either depending on if there’s a rough breathing mark above rho or not, and the mark looks like a backward apostrophe. if there’s a rough breathing mark it’s rh, otherwise it’s r)
