This is failing to understand what a settlement is. Most civil trials are just looking for money damages and with litigation being so expensive, if they felt like he was offering enough that would be their best option. Majority of civil trials never make it to court so this isn’t them accepting his terms, this is just the usual procedure. If Watson really wanted to fight it he could, but also settlement is not seen as a legal admission of guilt. Both parties get what they want with settlement
