There’s also a ton of talent in the AFC (many would argue there’s more of it there too) and yet none of these “elite” teams have been capable of showing up against KC in the playoffs. A stacked conference should have a lot of parity with plenty of hardware for many teams, and yet we just get one team dominating every year? You have to ask some questions.
The criteria I laid out is the teams of the AFC, not any sort of individual players. On paper, anyone would take the AFC over the NFC. If only the NFL were actually an on paper league… Not to mention, we’re getting the same four teams two years in a row making the divisional round? The Chargers were abysmal, the Broncos were out of their league, the Steelers did Stiller activities, the Bengals need a defense that exists, and the Dolphins can’t stay healthy… at all.
The other AFC teams? The colts are tanking this year, the Raiders will probably be a 7-9 win team, the Dolphins (again) look on pace to regress, the rest of the teams besides New England look like shit. I think the Patriots could surprise people this year, but they’re not Super Bowl contenders.
I don’t think this is a good argument. One team is winning so much bc it has unprecedented talent. Just bc one team wins doesn’t mean the others are bad. If the ravens or the bills were in the nfc, they probably both would have a Super Bowl appearance by now. Which means the afc has stronger competition.
That would mean the AFC is top-heavy. Nobody would deny the Chiefs are stacked with talent or that the Ravens and Bills are solid teams, with other teams trying to break in. However, this completely disregards the fact that the Lions just beat the Bills, and the Eagles beat the Ravens last year. The NFC isn’t a bum convention by any means, in which 3 teams had 14+ wins, the Rams and Packers are absolutely getting better each year, the Commanders whooped the Lions, and the Bucs can’t be ignored.
We just look at QBs and declare “that automatically makes this team more talented”. The Bills I think have been the closest they’ve been to cracking KC, but the defense needs to not suck ass against them. If we’re being realistic, based on what happened in the Super Bowl, whoever came out of the AFC was NOT going to have a good time in that game.
Outside of those top 3 teams, there is a GIGANTIC gap in talent in the AFC. The Texans happen to have a super talented defense that beat the shit out of the Chargers O, while their offense regressed between 2023 and 2024. The Bengals need to prove they have the defensive talent to make the playoffs and keep up in the AFC. Otherwise, their super talented offense isn’t gonna go anywhere because they’re being anchored down after getting no help from their defense.
