It’s not faulting the player. It’s acknowledging the context of the situation that led to that player’s success, and when you contextualize Hurt’s success with how stacked his team is, him winning a lot isn’t as impressive. Nobody is saying Hurts is bad because his team is stacked, we’re saying that the majority of his success can be attributed to his team being stacked.
“Oh you’re not there so you don’t know” braindead take. Watch a football game. Hurts had a 2k yard OPOY rusher in his backfield, a top 3-4 WR1, the best WR2 in football, the #1 O-Line, and the #1 ranked defense. There are plenty of QBs who have won with far less. Mahomes won a Superbowl with no 1000 yard receiver and no 1000 yard rusher. He won another with only one skill player over 1k (Kelce) and the 16th ranked defense. But please, tell me that you “need” that roster to win a super bowl
I’m not even trying to glaze Mahomes, that’s just the most recent example. Hurts by the tape, and statistically, is an above average QB at best. Hes a tier 3 QB, which is a QB who won’t elevate a team, but who won’t hold it back and can succeed with a great roster. There is nothing wrong with that, we just shouldn’t be pretending he’s something he isn’t.
I mean shit dude, just WATCH the football games and compare what Hurts is doing to the other top level QBs. Hell, compare him from Thursday to Herbert last night. The pocket presence, the accuracy, the arm talent, the awareness, it’s not even close. Just use your eyes during a football game. I swear to God half of you MFs act like we can’t literally see the game and watch how these QBs are playing.
You’re right we will, and Hurts will play just like he has for his entire career. A good, not great player who is in the most QB friendly situation quite possibly ever. I mean shit, can you tell me another time where a QB had the #1 O-Line, #1 RB, #1 defense, and #1 (or #2 at minimum) group of weapons in the league?
Genuinely asking, do you watch the games? Like, do you sit down and watch the QBs play football while understanding the qualities that make a QB good? I’ve never met a Hurts Glazer who does. If you do, could you identify some of the qualities Hurts has as a player that make him as good as you believe he is?
