You know what argument still pisses me off to this day. Lions fans blaming Ben Johnson for their playoff loss. That shit was so stupid. They had 500+ yards of offense and scored 31 and you think he was the problem???? Maybe don’t allow 45 points

Why was he dialing up pass plays from Jameson Williams when Gibbs was averaging 7.5 YPC. And come to think of it, why was Johnson dialing up a pass play on 3rd and 1 when the lions were in the red zone early on in the game with a 10-7 lead. Got cocky, Goff fumbled, and what would’ve been a score of 17-7 lions became 14-10 Washington.

In the game decisions have literally nothing to do with anything going on outside like what are you saying? The defense still allowed 45 points and the offense had over 500 yards like what the fuck, you can’t expect 100% perfection.

In a game where you’re aware that the defense is absolutely gutted, prolly the smart play is to get up early and run the ball, burning the clock and try to give the defense a breather. Ben didn’t do that, tried to get too cute and we see what happened

And that has nothing to do with him getting a job later????

I mean, when he’s interviewing with the bears and several other teams a few days before that lions playoff game, definitely seems like he was checked out. Lot of coordinators in the postseason do that, tbh

No they don’t you have no idea what you’re talking about. In 85 the bears defensive coordinator had a job lined up way before the Super Bowl and told them that and they still did just fine. There’s many others that have done the same. I’ll say it again they scored 31 and had over 500+ yards on offense THATS REALLY GOOD. Was he perfect, absolutely not, but they did really good. So blaming him is fucking absurd and just sounds like you’re mad he left

Obviously Ben was gonna become a head coach. Can’t entirely be mad about him there. Only issue that lions fans have with him at all is, like I said, the very strange gameplan, and leaving for a division rival. Had Ben became the Raiders head coach, Jags head coach, or the Pats head coach, guarantee lions fans would not talk shit about Ben.

That’d be like if suddenly Steve Spagnulo’s defense suddenly allowed 50 points in a playoff game for the chiefs and the next day, Spags becomes the Chargers head coach.

THATS MY POINT, I don’t care what they think of him. THE POINT IS BLAMING THE LOSS ON HIM AND NOT THE DEFENSE OR ANY OTHER FACTOR IS DUMB

No it’s like if spags allowed 17 points then left, he did more than enough to win

It definitely was a combo of factors. Playoff loss wasn’t solely on Ben, but he also didn’t call a great game. That Washington team was extremely beatable (as we saw 7 days later). Unlikely that the lions would’ve gotten past 2024 Philly, but that playoff loss to Washington was unacceptable, and Ben played a big part

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying because you keep agreeing with me but also still arguing. BEN IS NOT THE REASON THEY LOST. Did he do perfect…..NO…..could he have done better…..YES…. Did they still have a good offensive game overall…..YES…. Is the loss primarily Ben’s fault BECAUSE he was interviewing like many other coaches do in the playoffs….NO

I mean, eagles fans largely blame Jonathan Gannon for the SB loss to the chiefs, he was interviewing for the cardinals job the week of the SB and then what do you know? The Eagles defense gets totally exposed by Mahomes on one leg

That is all my point is, nothing more, not that the lions shouldn’t be angry or that Ben was perfect, simply that Ben was not the reason they lost and lions fans blaming him is dumb

I’m not bringing that up at all and I haven’t ever seen that anywhere

Then obviously you weren’t around in 2022 when that SB happened. Bc that was a major point of contention. An active defensive coordinator in the Super Bowl being tampered with by another team wanting to hire them to be a HC. Pretty sure Philly lost a draft pick bc of that too.

Dude I have no idea and I’m not talking about that, again I’ll just point to buddy ryan literally having another job he agreed to before a Super Bowl in which they had one of the best defensive performances of all time. There’s many others interviewing is literally like maybe an hour out of the full week you have to game plan
