NFL teams are divided in half between the AFC and NFC. The Superbowl is a matchup between the winners of both conferences. Ravens play in the AFC, Commanders play in the NFC.

The conferences are then divided into geographic divisions, but the conferences themselves are not determined by geography at all. That means you could get a Jets vs Giants, Rams vs Chargers, or Cowboys vs Texans Superbowl.
