This is great. I’d put Daniels a tier lower just because we’ve only got a year of his tape and a sophomore slump could happen but otherwise I agree with most of these

I’d move Russ and Baker and Goff each up a tier

My explanations if you care to see why I have QBs in each tier.

This is a line of reasoning I can get behind, though I feel the historic nature of his rookie year justifies him being in that second tier. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Caleb and Drake Maye jump a tier or two by the end of the year

Looked at the rest of the list and it’s still good I’d move Dak down to 4 and geno up to 3 but i can see giving Dak the benefit of the doubt for his absolute dogshit performance in the 8 games he played in 2024 since he was good in 23

Curious as to why you’re so high on Purdy?

While he does lack arm strength to throw the ball deep down the field (that imo is his biggest draw back) he does still have great velo and can throw bullets in short passes etc. The pros: Great under pressure, great at extending plays and creating something from nothing, smart, accurate, can throw the ball all over the field. I think eventually Purdy will fall out of the top 10 tho due to other QBs being more talented than Purdy. I think Purdy would also have more respect from fans if he

Was a top draft pick. Too many people see him as the last pick and run with the narrative that the 49ers offense is QB friendly. While it has been QB friendly it’s also not perfect and Purdy has elevated it. Jimmy G did not possess the ability to extend plays and the pass pro isn’t good enough for him to sit there so they couldn’t fully open up the passing game with Jimmy G, with Purdy they can and they have. Despite what stats show you Purdy actually had one of his better seasons last year with

How well he was playing individually…unfortunately a ton of injuries to the offense really limited what they could do down the stretch.

I’m glad you agree. This is my hot take, but Purdy impressed me more with his play this year than he did all of last year. Especially in the first half of the year, his play extension was phenomenal. Not to be all Chris Collinsworth, but genuinely some Mahomes like ability to extend and get the ball out. Obviously not Mahomes, but maybe like, Alabama Bryce Young with a weaker arm.

I will say though, as a certified Hurts hater, I think tier 5 is a little disrespectful. His ability as a rusher and short yardage threat alone I think is enough to raise his floor to around the 15th best QB.

I have him as the 15th best QB if we’re talking about number rankings, I explained that tier for Hurts, Tua, Goff, and Darnold is bc they’re reliant on good/great situations to perform at a high level. Of that bunch I think Hurts is the best and he’s proved it that if he has a good/great situation that he can elevate his game. Also I agree about Purdy, he’s so slept on bc people rather pay more attention to narratives than film/context.

While we’re on the topic, Stroud too lowkey looked even better this year than last IMO. I think people talking about a “sophomore slump” just weren’t watching any of the games, because on the downs where he wasn’t immediately killed because his line can’t stop a stunt to save their lives, he looked just as poised, accurate, and capable as last year.

I agree he doesn’t deserve the hate he gets. It’s the same with people who hate on Caleb but then applaud Maye when they both showed a lot of flashes of brilliance and development despite poor OL play/play calling. You’ll get used to it tho unfortunately as lot of people are casuals and either watch boxscores/advanced stats too much and or they don’t know how to properly breakdown games/film etc.

Also unfortunately for Stroud the Texans are taking the Bengals route which is giving their QB a bunch of weapons but no OL.
