I’ve always said the old name is as bad as the falcons being called the Atlanta n*ggers. Like it’s literally just a slur there’s no getting past it. I say the falcons because Georgia historically had the second most lynchings, Mississippi is in first but they ofc don’t have an nfl team, not sure if they have like a big college football team or not because I really don’t care about the ncaa

Oh yeah ain’t that what the confederate called themselves. The rebels or something. Or it was something to do with the “confederate flag” which has really only been around since like 1948. They do get points for not being a slur though so there’s that I guess

Ya Rebels is a pretty obvious nod the confederacy but “Ole Miss” was a term for a slave owners wife so I think that’s the more problematic part but less obvious
