It’s not the NFL trying to give the Chiefs a favor especially since he was originally going to get his disciplinary hearing after his scheduled court date in late January. Losing him that early in the season will be hard but they’ll figure it out by mid/late season (they literally did this last year), if they lost Rice in the middle of the playoffs they’d have a harder time figuring out what to do.

His court date isn’t until late January 2026, the NFL usually waits for that to make a decision on what the punishment is to be.
