OCD always changes tactics to get you to give in. If I lock my car door once it says "what if you didn't lock it and someone breaks in and steals shit?" If I say "so what? maybe they will, maybe not," it changes to "what if you accidentally lock it twice and ruin your progress against the ritual??" it's like OCD becomes a double agent acting like it's helping you fight the OCD when it's actually the OCD itself trying to get you to give in.
Absolutely. Basically all of my “old” OCD is gone- in fact- when my chronic health issues started to get- I kind of stoped caring about anything (which is an issue in itself but whatever) and a werid side effect of that was my OCD just shut up. It was like “what if you left the oven on and the house burns down in your sleep” and I was like “so what. Sounds like a cool way to die” and eventually my brain shut up. I thought it went away entirely (1/2)
(2/2) but then I realized it just shifted to control compulsions. Especially with my heath. I’ve started obsessively planning around potential flares- which has been both a good and bad thing. Has it allowed me to conserve my energy when I do have a flare- yes- has it made me miss lots of social events bc I was convinced I was going to have a flare and nothing happened? Also yes. 😔 Anyways. All that to say- OCD is like a cursed Pokémon- it evolves. PIKACHU! USE WHAT IF! *wa bam!*
