I do the last thing a lot. i'm terrified of having some secret mental illness or chronic illness that i don't know about so i'll google all night long and barely sleep even when i know i need to be up early i also get where if i mess up and get called out, whoever called me out will think im stupid or hate me so esp with school, i check and constantly check the rubric, get others to read over it, check it with google, etc bc i can't handle getting lower than an A but i think that's perfectionism

OCD revolves around an obsession. Unwanted thoughts or behavior that you cannot stop, and it eventually takes over your life

So my OCD is that I constantly obsess over fearing about looking at girls boobs and genitals, which makes me paranoid about being a creep everywhere I go. That is my obsession. My compulsion is avoiding public places, staring at objects, and having to explain people I have OCD so they don’t get freaked out

I’ll make a list of some of my obsessions and compulsions. O: Monsters following me in the dark. C: Can’t go anywhere without a flashlight. O: Think everyone will be mad at me forever after making one mistake. C: Avoid speaking to people, this way I will never have to make a mistake. O: Extreme fear of death, visions of myself and loved ones dying. C: Keep asking them if they’re ok or sick, keep googling if I’m sick.

what does that obsessive thought feel like? like is it a physical need, does it overwhelm thoughts until the obsessive behavior is complete? Like i know it's an obsession, but how does it feel? idk if im making sense, im so sorry

It can’t stop popping up no matter how hard you try. But I am sure some people experience it differently or have different words to describe this

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a physical need in my case. OCD is different for many people; in fact, there’s different types. OCD is extremely debilitating. The thoughts are so dominating that they can intervene your actions, your schedule, and even the way you think.

You don’t have to apologize at all. I can specify further if you want me to

please 😭 i'm trying to figure out if what i'm experiencing is a compulsion or if it's anxiety. i have family history of OCD and have spent the last few weeks sort of doing a deep dive into it but nothing beats a real first person story about it and im too scared to ask my family members bc they'll say im reading too far into things

So it's like a need to do an action to calm that anxiety feeling? I have lots of things i do as a result of some sort of irrational fear and it kind of messes with my sleep schedule bc ill look up things all night, makes me late to things bc i have to go back to my house to check, makes me where i feel like i have to be somewhere extremely early depending on what it is, i have a lot of health anxiety where i constantly think i could have something even if it's irrational and then i have to-

Yes that is what a Compulsion is- but there is also a rare type called Pure O (pure obsession no compulsion). If you have extreme anxiety that is not being resolved with antidepressants, it could point to OCD. In my case most of my anxiety was resolved but NOT obsessive and looping thoughts. That’s when I got diagnosed and was able to rule out only having anxiety.

-research everything about it and do a ton of those stupid online quizzes (which never help). A lot of the times if i don't check on whatever is bothering me, i'll immediately catastrophize it, go worse case scenario type of thing. Like if I don't double check my front door is locked, we could get robbed of everything and that's all my fault so i have to drive back from being on the road to wherever to make sure i locked it, even if I remember locking it

i've never been medicated bc i don't feel like my life is super duper disrupted, it's just a bunch of tiny things i have to do to not be worried about stuff ive sort of just learned how to deal with over the years. but that makes a lot of sense

That sounds like a symptom of OCD. But why do you do it?

OCD and perfectionism tend to go hand-in-hand as OCD makes it seem like if one thing goes wrong the whole world explodes. Based on what I am reading, you sound similar to me before I got diagnosed

with the googling, if i don't look into it, i wont know if i have it and if i dont know if i have it, what if i do and then something bad happens bc i didnt do my research. it calms my mind when i find a symptom of something i dont align with bc then i can say i for sure dont have wtv it might be.the door thing, i have to circle back to check that i locked it bc what if i didnt and then we get robbed bc the door was unlocked and then thats all my fault and everyone will hate me

so i'm not overreacting thinking i might have it? i don't want to claim something i don't have but i feel like i might have it? but also what if im just anxious? i don't want to sound like im attention seeking, y'know?
