As a biology major, I fuckin wish it was because it would likely be an extant robust australopithecine and that would be absolutely astounding to study. However, any large megafauna like that could not go undiscovered in the North American wilderness without leaving any physical traces. We would have DNA by now if they were extant, and if it went extinct in recent history we would have remains from indigenous archeological contexts.
