I mean that absolutely depends on the movie, no? Some movies use real life scenarios or science to make a plot so certain questions can directly relate to real life but sometimes it’s absolute nonsense and a response should just be “it’s a movie”

i don’t like it bc it removes any opportunity for imagination abt the movie yknow? like asking “why did X character do Y thing” lets there be discussion/imagination abt what could have led up to them making a certain choice, which is just more fun

If you have to answer those sorts of questions with “it’s a movie,” then it’s not a good one.

I feel like 99% of movies aim to minimize logical inconsistencies even within the realm of the movie, fictional or not, so I wouldn’t really say it depends on the movie. Plot holes exist in all genres

I think you're misunderstanding that "it's a movie" as a response is meant to acknowledge that the writers just messed up, and (in the nicest way possible) you need to shut up and stop overthinking something that's simply explained
