Florida minimum wage is going up to $15 per hour. Do you think that’s good or bad for the economy?

it’s bad. it’s only good in comparison to every other state but it’s still bad. the minimum wage should be a livable wage. $15/h isn’t enough to live in any state.

I wonder what’s going to happen next. Let me guess, these businesses that employ minimum wage workers are going to start loosing/making less money, so to counteract that they are going to up their prices, then people are going to complain that they can’t afford things, then they will raise the minimum wage again. Repeat.

Hot take. Minimum wage jobs are for. 1. High schools kids/first job 2. Job while in school 3. Supplemental income (2nd job, spouse) 4. Older people not making as much on retirement or SS That’s it, anyone else can go out and get a real job like everyone else.

I personally think it’s bad. It benefits those who are making less than $15, because they will essentially be getting $1 raise (previous min wage was $14 per hour). It’s bad for anyone making more than $15, because now, the gap between their salary and $15 gets smaller, so I see it as losing money. Remember, when minimum wage goes up, so does everything else.

This exactly, comparatively? Great, generally? Livably? Laughable

I mean yeah but that has nothing to do with minimum wage getting raised that has to do with the lack of legislation on wage scaling. You're correct its just an entirely separate issue.

Minimum wage jobs are real jobs and this is an incredibly classist and close minded take.

maybe corporate greed is the issue and not people wanting to make enough to live. we are in a job crisis right now and a lot of people are relying on minimum wage jobs for income. i know so many people in their 20s having to work 2-3 jobs to keep up with the economy.

Classist. I grew up in section 8 housing, barely passed HS and didn’t go to college. I got a job just a year ago that started at 50k. It’s not that hard.

Yes classist. You dont get a pass on your degradation of minimum wage workers just bc you started at the bottom. Your 50k salary is still not a livable wage in most urban areas in the US and certainly not in the majority of florida so all youre doing is proving the points already made in other comments

I live in southwest Florida. Have a car payment, single bedroom apartment, and just started to work for an associates degree. It’s not the most comfortable living but it’s not impossible. Living off of minimum wage is possible. It’s just not going to be comfortable or convenient.
