Drivers Ed, since some of you don’t understand this shit:
If you are on the highway and there are cars merging from the entry ramp in your way, should you
Neither, but #2 is preferable to #1. Drivers in the slow lane should ideally move over to the left lane if possible, but are otherwise only advised to maintain speed. It is the merging driver’s responsibility to identify a safe gap or yield

Your poll is flawed. It doesn’t provide a correct answer. It’s almost as if… you don’t understand this shit.

Do whatever you want just get out of the fucking way.

Idc just don't slow down, that's more annoying than anything

just merge zipper style or move out of the right lane if u don’t want to deal with it

Anonymous#11d
No, it isn’t. It’s the current drivers responsibility to yield the lane

If there’s no safe spot to merge into, you’re gonna fly off the road. you have to yield the plane

Exactly

idk where you went to drivers ed, but they told us to maintain a constant speed so merging drivers can more easily tell where they can fit, assuming you can’t move over, and speeding up is preferable to slowing down if it helps make space.
It’s the merging drivers job to merge.

they also literally have yield signs on like half the on ramps in my area, idk what makes you think the ramp would have right of way

Anonymous#31d
There aren’t any yield ramps in your area lamo, and if there’s a space for merging drivers then maintaining speed is fine. But if there isn’t a space, you need to move because there’s nothing the merging drivers can do. You need to be going at least 55 in order to merge

How does one move out of the right lane when entering a highway?

Anonymous#522h
Clearly I understand it better than the people downvoting this post

AnonymousOP21h
…are you not aware that yield ramps exist?

AnonymousOP21h
Also, the state police in my state say that existing traffic has the right-of-way and that it’s the responsibility of the merging car to find a safe opportunity to do so. Soooooooooo

Anonymous#721h
No, they don’t lol and no yield entry ramps don’t exist

i’m referring to the ppl already on the road, in line with ur original question

AnonymousOP20h
also are u australian? in the repost u referenced QLD (queensland?), ur arguing with ppl who are mostly american and our traffic laws likely are different
6
AnonymousOP20h
You are not obligated to change your speed or yield. The on-ramp to the highway (or any road for that matter) is responsible for safely merging. You created a poll with two incorrect answers.

AnonymousOP17h
actually cars have brakes

Anonymous#717h
I think it's the right thing to get out of the way if you can but the responsibility ultimately falls on the person merging. It's one of those things where you can't fully count on other drivers being nice.

I agree. When I can, I always move over a lane. But OP is very stuck in the mud about the merging car having the right-of-way when that’s just not true.
