On top of that making a gun yourself is not hard to do if you know how and know where to get the materials. It’s similar moonshining. And probably would be done by the same people.

Plus if the government attempted to ban private gun ownership there would be at a minimum mass protests.

That’s the key. It would become like gold on the black market. So stockers and reloaders would become crucial as well.

Plus if you study the history of guns the first guns were hand cannons. (That’s why cannons can be called guns also) Also the first ammunition was round metal balls. Those are not hard to make. They were designed for muzzleloaders. Casing ammunition was invented later and it’s what’s common now.
