A blood disorder usually affecting people of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern descent that causes red blood cells to be abnormal small. This leads to frequent fatigue, anemia, pale skin, slower growth as a child and sometimes an enlarged liver or spleen.

People with really bad thalassemia need frequent blood transfusions, but mine isn’t that bad. It just makes me really tired all the time and my blood tests never show enough iron because of small red blood cell size
