Only if you have a really cool new name, or you’re named after a particularly hainus person

Never met anyone who actually changed their name legally. Let me know how it goes like was the process long and hard or was it simple and easy

With everything going on in this current state of political climate I wouldn’t be changing my name at all right now. Maybe in the near future it won’t be as big of an issue then I say go for it.

Ngl I wish picking your own legal name was more common. Liking picking a gamer tag. Especially after you have consciousness and wanna pick a name that matches your vibe

I actually found out that I was adopted and I want to change my name to a family name to feel closer to my mom (the one who raised me, not my bio mom)

It’s a name I’ve been going by for about 4 years now, but now it’s got special significance

if you’ve already been going by that then you might as well make it official. makes things simpler i would think

You have definitely met married people who legally changed their name.

That’s the biggest reason I haven’t already done it. The main thing is that I’m planning to move out of the country for grad school, so if I’m going to do it, it needs to be soon so I can change all of my documents in time

I wouldn’t change it then. The passport issue is a big one. If you come back from school and it doesn’t match your birth certificate you could be refused access. I read your reply to others and I totally get why you would want to change your name. And if we weren’t going through this presidency I’d say go for it

Well, ideally I wouldn’t be coming back tbh, but I get where you’re coming from

I think it’s implied they meant first name

They said they were adopted and wanted to change their name to feel closer to their adoptive mother, how does that imply first name?

Yeah, I mean my first name. If my last name was different from the rest of my family I wouldn’t have just found out that I’m adopted
