Men come to the “yes/true” conclusion easier because they do not have to sacrifice themselves physically for 9 months with the possibility of losing their life.
True or false At this point in my life, I know FOR SURE I want to have kids at some point

And they’re usually doing less of the raising and more of the fun stuff. Less of the waking up in the middle of the night, changing diapers, cleaning up after them, cooking for them, homework help, getting them ready for bed and for the day, etc

Shoulder dystocia: 1/200 births (huge chance of fetal death) Preeclampsia: 7% of pregnancies (can progress to seizures, HELLP syndrome, or cause maternal/fetal death) Placenta previa: 1/200 pregnancies (risk of hemorrhage and subsequent death) These are just some of the things I’ve learned in my OB specialty class and the semester is only half way done.

Also, maternal death is not the only terrible thing to come from pregnancy. You forget that pregnant women experience a higher rate of domestic violence in addition to the extremely high demand pregnancy places on their body. Fetal death is also an extremely tragic complication of pregnancy that the women might carry the guilt of. Having a child is not just birth- it’s the turmoil of the entire 40 week period and the subsequent months/years postpartum.

I am not fearmongering- I am simply relaying the gravity of the situation. Pregnancy and labor are a very big deal and sometimes painful, risky, and scary. Birth is amazing and it’s beautiful to see a family grow, but both men & women should be educated on the gravity of it all.

Actually, new studies are suggesting that men might have a shorter “biological clock” for reproduction than women. With age, men’s sperm have increasing likelihood of producing non-viable mutations leading to higher levels of miscarriage. It’s looking like around 30-35 is when sperm quality starts to significantly decline in men depending on their quality of life.

I’ve seen men in their 40’s or even 50’s have a healthy child with a women, so that doesn’t seem to accurate.

Well of course they can. But I’ve studied this before. Women can’t get pregnant later but yknow how older births are high risk for the mother and higher chances of the child having conditions or problems. The same logic applies to older fathers but just for the baby. They have a worse chance of being born with a condition.

With the increase of the world obesity epidemic, increasing ED rates, etc. it has been proven that male sperm count is in a pretty steady decline- nothing too fancy needed for that though, a simple google search will show you a good graph on the decreasing sperm counts and fertility worldwide & in the USA.

In the U.S. you literally have a 0.1% chance of death in childbirth. If you’re generally a fearful person that’s fine, I’m not saying you can’t have your personal feelings, but blowing it out of proportion is unhelpful and regressive.

True or false: a 0.1% chance qualifies as a “possibility”

True; What does this have to do with anything? You have 10x greater chances of dying in a car crash. Do you warn random people on social media about how scary driving is?

OP said “with the possibility of losing their life.” The main point of their post was the “physically sacrifice themselves for 9 months,” at least in my read of it. Nothing they said was inaccurate. They didn’t say “and it’s likely you’ll die!” They said “there’s a possibility of this,” which tends to imply a small probability. And yeah, as an EMT, I do warn random people on social media about how dangerous driving is if they’re saying shit that shows they’re not taking it seriously.
