It can lead to resentment of society and the community which can then lead to violence.

If we learned anything from the stanford prison experiment, people will become corrupt with power. I know everyone hates due process but its better than idiots with no sign of direction trying to decide what people should be cancelled for.

The problem arises when the shame is permanent. The mindset that sets in is “If I am going to be punished regardless I might as well deserve it.”
