Is it unrealistic to expect a roommate to remember which items in the shared fridge belong to me so as to not use it?

Maybe you could get sticky notes and label things

Only if you guys aren’t buying the same products/brands, for example 3/5 of my roommates eat extra sharp Sargento cheese, so it’s perfectly reasonable to mistakenly eat someone else’s cheese, but if I buy Kraft cheese and one of them eats it then I would be upset.

you should know what doesn’t belong to you tbh BUT label your stuff!!

No. If one of you happens to buy the exact same thing as the other, you can draw on them if it’s that serious

Same thing with non branded things, like a bag of fresh produce, if I buy broccoli and my roommate buys broccoli, it’s reasonable to accidentally grab someone else’s broccoli and eat it. If it’s happening all the time then try and mark yours or encourage them to put their food in the same spot every time so they know if it’s theirs.
