The Football War was fought between El Salvador and Honduras in July 1969. While there were multiple reasons for the war, primarily relating to large amounts of Salvadoran migration into Honduras and land reform, the Football War was named so because of a series of soccer matches, the aftermath of which involved riots, including Salvadorans burning the Honduran stadium, and killing multiple people. Due to this, El Salvador removed all diplomatic ties to Honduras, kickstarting the war.
