I think the way we’ve defined political has extended into a postmodern concept of “perspective,” so anything you experience subjectively (which is everything) has a political dimension. Even obvious scientific things, like vaccines, are political. Being a vaccine skeptic is like being a gravity skeptic, but politics pushes people to that point

Just because Im not acknowledging the political nature of things doesnt mean those things arent political, it doesnt go away because I have the privilege to/choose to be ignorant to it (coming from someone who is apolitical)

okay LMAO then I disagree because my favorite color or my favorite ice cream isn’t political

Kids use favorite colors to find or turn away friends all the time; that’s a form of negotiating politics. As for ice cream, you could make the case that its production is possible because of exploitative labor conditions of dairy farmers and ice cream servers. Not to mention the climate impacts of the cows we get the milk from. Neither of those is intended to start a fight, rather to point out that these things do get used in politics

okay but the REASON they are MY (me, personally, myself) favorite is not political. so therefore not “everything” literally

that’s why I was very specific about MY favorite, and why I said favorite (not how they are made, not what the colors/flavors mean)

I didnt downvote but possible explanation, as I said in my reply, choosing not to personally participate in the politics of something doesnt mean its not there 🤷‍♂️

heard, and I don’t disagree, but if we are being literal with ‘everything’ can u help me understand how this is political? ex: my favorite ice cream is cookie dough, because it tastes good. (im not referring to how it’s made, where i buy the ice cream, the fact i get to eat ice cream at all. the sole thing im referring to is that I like cookie dough. is THAT political?)

Youre not choosing to acknowledge the political aspects of ice cream production in picking a favorite one, but that doesnt mean the impacts of that disappear, for this particular example (and if we really wanna be picky im sure theres been observational studies on how different 'non political' interests align with different parties)

Okay- Heard and agreed, but also disagree lol. what I am saying is there’s a difference between systems being political and *my personal preference* being political. I like cookie dough solely because of the taste. if ice cream production changed tomorrow, I would still like cookie dough the best solely because of its flavor.

And thats awesome for you! Youre not placing politics on why you enjoy ice cream or that particular flavor but that doesnt mean the ice cream (and the system behind it, or other enjoyers) are also apolitical, idk if that maybe makes more sense? I agree with you to be clear I think ts is dumb im just acutely aware of universal interpretation vs my own

I totally agree and never would say otherwise that the systems or other people behind ice cream or anything else are apolitical! my point was solely that my personal preference alone for the examples i gave is not political, therefore “Everything” in the most absolute literal sense is not political lol
