Does it count as nepotism if the person is actually very good at the job/do you think it's a problem if they are? For example, something like a family business that the person has been well trained to work in/take over eventually.

Doesn’t matter if they’re good at the job or not that’s not what nepotism is. It’s about how that person has an unfair advantage over the other employees of the business

That’s two separate questions

it’s nepotism, but in a socially acceptable form. if trained to be a thing and one excels at it, good job. not everyone gets the chance to be trained based on the circumstances of life.

Maybe but I don’t necessarily see it as an issue, although granted I am biased. My family has had a ranch and farm going back several generations and it’s always been passed down. Since I was a kid I’ve been fought to work with the animals and the farmland, and basically set up to eventually take over the place. Obviously I wouldn’t be the only worker, but still. Heck, It was also my after-school job in high school, in particular looking after the horses and cows (and the barn cats!)

still nepotism by definition but it’s not nearly as much of a problem if they have the qualifications

It’s my home and a place I love with all my heart, and I really do want to keep the tradition going. Mind you, it’s not like my parents forced me to work there, the encouraged me to get an after-school job and made sure I knew how to do everything properly. Not going to be what I do right after college, but eventually when my parents want to retire, it’s something I want to take on and am well trained for, not just running it but working on it too. Been in my mom’s family for over a century now.

Idk why I’m getting downvoted. I think it is for nepotism but I don’t have as much of a problem with it in that case
