defunding PBS will have a direct impact on children’s lives and education, which will certainly impact our future in likely more negative ways than we can think of. Everything here is bad but I think defunding PBS has the biggest long term effect

It is worth noting that while there likely was political motivation in cancelling Colbert’s show, late night television has been becoming financially damaged for many years now and it is very plausible that Colbert’s show would have been cancelled (or at least downsized) in the future anyway from purely monetary reasons. As more people turn to scrolling in bed for their wind-down entertainment, it has meant far fewer people watching live late night shows and therefore far less revenue from them.
