Yeah i thought promise rings were something you gave in like middle or high school that basically promise you'll be faithful to them and not cheat

It’s just an unnecessary step .05. Engagement ring is step 1. Marriage is obviously step 2. I don’t think it’s stupid , it’s just not necessary, if you want to give a ring to show ur affection, go ahead.

I used to, but the mentality behind it is “I really truly love you, and I’m dedicated to marrying you someday, but we don’t have the funds (or whatever other reason) to really be planning a wedding right now, so this is my promise to you that I will marry you when we can”

I agree with them under special circumstances, like you are literally too broke to get married and you don’t want to have a 5 year engagement, or you’re going off to war or prison and you want to promise you’ll still love them when you get back. Or if you have to move ways from each other and go long distance for a bit like for college or work

So I’m a young Christian that made a commitment to someone, despite their serious medical struggles early in the relationship. I’m too young and immature and financially unstable to get engaged, but still wanted a gift for them to show I’m committed. So I went with a promise ring

An engagement ring typically means that you’re ready to be planning a wedding. You’re in the right phase of life to marry. Versus a promise ring, which means that they WANT to marry and will eventually, but they can’t be planning anything solid yet

And that may be true, but that’s also their choice. You were confused, so I explained the mentality and typical differences between the two. If promise rings aren’t your style, simply don’t give or accept them🤷‍♀️

If I was in my 20s or something I wouldn’t even wanna be telling people I was given a promise ring. I much rather get a cheaper temporary engagement ring and stay engaged for a while, that’s so common
