It took me 7 years to finish. After all that, I feel like I have more direction than I’ve ever had. I also had my own rough go of it + a shitty gpa I managed to raise. You have absolutely not ruined everything and still have time. If you enjoy what you’re doing, keep doing it! Who says you can’t go to med school still? What you’ve gone through will be a weight you carry with you, but it also gives you unique perspective and strength you will bring into everything you set your mind to
I would suggest scrapping your current school and NOT TRANSFERRING but enrolling as a NEW student at a different school. You do not have to report your previous college education. If you do then they’ll count grades from previous schools. Start over. You’re not likely going to get into a med school with a 2.0 gpa. Unless it’s like nursing or something possibly. Even if you get all As the next 2 years, you’ll only have a 3.0 & if u phoned it in for the prerequisites you probably won’t.
I’m sorry for your loss to start off. I cannot imagine how hard that must be. On a personal note, after I graduated high school I was diagnosed with epilepsy, lifelong, I need medication for life kinda thing. I tried to go back to school but my mental health was so down from coping with life & the diagnosis. I took two gap years. My first semester back (2023), my GPA was like, 0.4 or something, academic probation.
Congrats!! 7 years isn’t bad honestly. I think I’ve always been so quick to compare myself to my classmates. They’re all pretty ahead and are looking to graduate on time or earlier. I guess I just have to learn to accept that everyones different and that it’s okay to work at my own pace. And to give myself grace. And you’re right! I guess med school is still an option, it won’t be easy but it’s not off the table
I just more wanted to say, this time in life is truly one of the hardest times, and you’re coping with something so traumatic I can’t even imagine what it’s like and you are actually AMAZING for going back regardless of what happened and still getting a 2.0 or over, that’s extremely impressive to me.
In my opinion, DEFINITELY take the summer off, take a year off if you’re able to defer, work full time, meet people, work in different fields (service, retail, barista etc), just take time to yourself. After summer or any sort of break, go part time if possible, slow it down so you can have a clear head and really hone in on what’s important. Just focus on you, and idk, maybe therapy would help you if you’ve not done that, I did that for those 4 years it’s taken me just about.
Definitely not. Currently, I have about 3 Cs on my transcript. My university does do grade replacements and I’ve only taken up to precalc. I’ve yet to start chemistry and bio I’ve only taken up to the second one. So I’m hoping since I still have so many heavy credit classes to take, it’ll help. Even if it’s a LITTLE bit.
Thank you for sharing. Ik struggling, especially academically and mentally can be very vulnerable so I truly appreciate you sharing. I’m very proud of you!! Ik many who’ve taken gap years and never went back to school😅 lol I guess it’s whatever works for you but the fact that you didn’t let your situation discourage you, that’s amazing.
