When really trying to conceive it can take up to a year. If it takes over a year when you are deliberately cumming inside during ovulation then get checked for fertility issues

Bodies vary. My mom could get pregnant if dad sneezed her way, I went years not using birth control while having sex every night and never got pregnant. Some people get pregnant while on birth control (my mom, again), and it could be one of you is a bit less fertile that normal.
