does diet coke count towards water intake?

It just doesn’t count as much. It’s a myth that it’s more dehydrating than hydrating because of the caffeine. The caffeine just offsets some of the hydration, but it is still more hydrating than dehydrating. More of the issue with sodas, teas, etc is that they are bad for the kidneys if you aren’t also getting plenty of clear water

If it is not water, naturally flavored water, or unsweetened no add ins coffee or tea then it does not count for water

Diet coke contains caffeine, a diuretic which will make you LOSE water

The diuretic properties of caffeine are outweighed my the amount of water in the beverages they contain. Diet coke is CERTAINLY hydrating almost as much as normal water.

Theres decaf options of both for one, and secondly the caffeine is negligible if its less than 2 servings. I go off of if it would break a fast (aka caloric value) and with no sweetener or additives coffee and tea are fast friendly

Thats the measure that works best for my plan but different measures of what counts for water or cals is different for what works best for you
