I work at an ice cream parlor and get paid $7.50 per hour. I genuinely don’t expect to be tipped on regular scoops (that’s absurd), but if you get rolled ice cream (which takes a LOT of energy and time if there’s a long line), it would be nice to tip your workers. I still don’t expect it, but if I’m ever at an establishment where the workers have to go out of their usual routine to serve me, I tip.
The reason I specified coffee shops or takeout is because I’m specifically not talking about sit down restaurants, where you NEED to tip because that’s how the waiters make money (most waitstaff make like $2 an hour from the restaurant and actually rely on tips for their money) whereas at a coffee shop, fast food, etc they are paid a full wage and tips are just extra, for good service imo
Small local shop? Tip much more especially to a direct tip jar. More likely to not pay a lot to the workers but much nicer of a place. Chain fast food? Probably no tip. They have consistent service and are more likely to pay more like 15+ an hour or more (like at McDonald’s bc they pay 20+).
