It should be to teach, however as so many are going to college, weeding out the weak, especially in higher end majors or programs with more competition, it’s a result that’s going to happen.

I mean depends on the type of professor. There are teaching faculty whose entire job is teaching but also research/tenure track faculty whose main job is research but also have to teach
