I mean we wouldn’t have to nationalize all universities there already are many public universities- we could just make those free/more subsidized, and the private schools would have to lower tuition in order to stay competitive

I think ~2 years of mandatory public service (including but not limited to the military, to also include Peace Corps / Americorps / Public Works) would be a good thing even unrelated to college though preferably free education would be a perk of it.

There’s really no way to cut costs without citizens paying. In all of these examples the cost increases in citizens in some way.

People could finish a degree in 2 years because a lot of people just take gen Ed’s for the degree and don’t interact with the material as they would for their major

…how would that make it more affordable? less students means a higher cost per student, unless universities start closing and students consolidate, but even then that’s the same as it is, at best

They are doing this for PhDs are professional schools already though but undergrad is what funds them
