Do you think abortion would be less of a controversial topic if it were men that had to get them

Considering a majority of the real opposition is because people (lets be honest, men) want control over women and their bodies? Absolutely

I’d say maybe a little because there are some mfs out there who just hate women and are anti abortion just for that but I think the majority who are against it are not because it’s a women specifically who’s pregnant but because of the life of the baby.

Why do you think that

See that was what I was thinking when I posted this. I don’t think men would women to have a say on what they do with their bodies and if a man was pregnant and didn’t want to be I KNOW they wouldn’t be happy to keep it

Its the same reason men dont get pushed to vasectomies, its not about avoiding unwanted pregnancy or about responsibility or prevention, its about controlling women bc if you flip the book its a problem

Polls don't show much of a difference between male and female support for it overall

They specifically say they have a different belief of when life begins, so they literally view abortion as murder because of that

The conversation around abortion is centric to biological females bc you need a uterus to get pregnant to need an abortion (and yes, some bio women dont have a uterus, I know) this is a pointless argument to raise when thats clearly not the point of the question

Yeah, I know it’s not the point of the question, it’s still important to talk about when this thing comes up though. I’ve been denied access to OB/GYN care when I needed it because I’m a trans man, on top of how hard it can already be to find decent healthcare. Acting like this is just a non sequiter or me trying to divert the conversation raises another question though - why even the people advocating for abortion access are so ready and willing to abandon a subset of the people who need it

I am a trans man myself. I have needed abortion care myself. No one is abandoning trans men in this conversation. Nor does the abortion convo abandon intersex people or women without a uterus or anyone else who needs health care. This specific question is obviously targetted toward the conversation of sexism and using the abortion debate as a vessel. Yes trans men need obgyn care and abortion access. No every question that mentions abortion does not need to be about us

Its not anti trans or exclusionary or wtv youre trying to imply its a fact of the literal demographic that it can be applied to more sectored conversations, not everything is about you or your community all the time even if it can apply and thats ok

Nah it’s just because they mentioned the idea of men needing abortions as like, nonsensical. I can’t project my own experience onto you but like, at least for me, I’ve also had a lot of issues with not being seen as a man and the kind of like, not being understood and having to teach healthcare professionals about my own hormones when I had a pregnancy scare while on testosterone and when I was dealing with another health issue.

What bothers me is that it just comes up as a hypothetical or a ridiculous idea, when I went to do patient intake as a trans man who like, could not pass as a woman in any setting because I look like a stereotypical big hairy cis man. Just having to argue with someone in office while they try to redirect me to psych evaluation because they could not fathom that I had a uterus or that a trans man could look like me

If I was trying to derail the entire convo I would’ve made a new post. If people don’t want to have this discussion you’re more than welcome to scroll past my comment on it

Who is 'they' bc no one said or implied that men needing abortions is nonsensical 💀 us trans men have unique healthcare struggles especially pertaining to our anatomy yes, this post is about sexism against women using the topic of abortion as the vessel so its not about us or our healthcare in any capacity. I totally empathize with you and Im sorry you went through that, I had similar problems myself but this particular convo just isnt about our experience whatsoever

Depending on sentence context “they” refers to either OP or the OB/GYN, receptionist, and insurance reps I had to fight tooth and nail to be treated by?

I was adding my 2 cents, it was a momentary thing I was bothered by and I’ve said already that I’m not trying to derail the topic of abortion access.

Again dude, I had similar struggles no one is trying to invalidate your experience Im literally just saying this conversation is about specifically sexism against women, its not about us trans guys and thats ok! People should absolutely be aware of our struggles but this is not our conversation this is a conversation for women bc its abt misogyny its just using abortion as the example bc realistically 95% of people needing abortions will be women

And I was just saying that the people in this scenario impacted by misogyny are not limited to cis people

Men cannot experience misogyny. What we struggle with is not comparable to misogyny in any capacity it is an entirely separate thing 💀 yes non cis people experience misogyny, trans women, people mid transition, fem presenting men, not us big burly guys, thats not what we face it is simply transphobia and thats not the same thing
