I want to decompose! Modern burial practices, driven by vanity and fear of decay, disrupt nature’s cycle of decomposition and nutrient recycling. Life is temporary, rituals fade. What doesn’t fade is the environmental cost: the destruction of natural landscapes for cemeteries, sealed caskets that delay decomposition, greenhouse gases from cremation, and the toxic chemicals used in embalming. These remnants of ego outlive memory, and they’re ultimately what we leave behind.
