No but it’s just a natural thing that people usually learn out of convenience. There’s no need to mandate it, especially considering there’s non-immigrant communities in America which speak a first language other than English. If they need to learn English they will do so on their own. Coercion is unnecessary.

the US didn’t even have an official language until march. there’s plenty of areas you can live and speak something else without any issues at all. Obviously being able to talk to more people is useful but there’s no real reason to require it

No they should be required for certain jobs (like teaching at a university 🙄) but not for basic citizenship

I dont think theres any need to mandate it but i think they should know it at least conversationally if they plan to successfully transition to living here. People learn languages for 2 week vacations i dont think its unreasonable to expect i just dont think it should be mandated especially if we arent going to provide accessible (aka free or near free and easy to interact with) resources to get it done
